Two Fort Bend Christian Academy High School seniors made the pivotal decision to play a sport at the collegiate level. The Fort Bend Christian Academy Upper School hosted a signing ceremony for the athletes following chapel.

Keegan Lessard

FBCA senior Keegan Lessard signed a Letter of Intent to play baseball at St. Cloud Technical College.

“Keegan has been playing baseball since he was 4 years old,” Russ Lessard, Keegan’s father said. “There was never a time where he did not want to play baseball. This a dream come true for him and a lifelong accomplishment.”

In addition to the FBCA Baseball team, Keegan also plays for the Houston Warriors baseball academy. His favorite moments playing the sport are all the times he has been hit by a pitch.

Russ also said that Keegan has had unbelievable faith, helping him to cope with the difficult challenge of his Crohn’s Disease diagnosis.

“Thanks to Coach Richards and Coach McDaniel and the entire coaching staff for helping me to grow as a ball player and a Christian,” Keegan said. “Thank you to my parents for all the love and support; I would never be here if it wasn’t for y’all. Last, but not least, this is my first year at FBCA, but y’all took me in and made me part of the family. I love y’all. You are my brothers.”

Hannah Marut

FBCA senior Hannah Marut signed a Letter of Intent to run Cross Country and Distance Track at Abilene Christian University.

“We are extremely proud of Hannah,” Steve Marut, Hannah’s father said. “She is very dedicated to the sport and does a great job.”

Girls Team Captain in 2016, Hannah has run for FBCA all four years of high school and has participated in Cross Country for six years. She has received numerous awards including:

  • All State 5A Cross Country State Championships runner-up in 2016
  • 2017 Texas Southern University silver medal winner in the 1600 meter race
  • All State Honors for both the 3200 meter and 1600 meter track events in 2016
  • District and Regional Champion in the 3200 meter and runner-up in the 1600 in 2016
  • Runner of the Year for 2014, 2015, and 2016
  • “Top Gun” Track Athlete Award for 2015 and 2016
  • Christian Character Award
  • Newcomer of the Year
  • Scholar Athlete Award and Academic All State

In addition to running for FBCA, Hannah is also a member of TeamPrep USA and Richmond Gold.

One of her favorite memories is running with Coach Christopher Jackson and her teammates through local parks, stores and even Sonic. Jackson said she is very coachable and driven.

“She’s got it,” he said. Hannah said she has learned so much from her coaches.

“I think the biggest lesson is that running doesn’t just equip you for the sport but also for life,” she said. “From this sport, I have learned to step out of my comfort zones and understand that through all of the ups and downs – in both the sport and life in general – you can’t quit – because the world doesn’t stop for you.”
